The Filter Cleaner Max is the best way to clean your cartridge style pool filter quickly and without bending or kneeling for long periods.
By cleaning from the inside and outside at the same time, your pool filter will get cleaned quickly and easily. The internal jets are adjustable for various pool filter lengths up to 36″ long. While the internal jets are spinning and cleaning your filter, the cleaning wand used simultaneously on the outside pushes all of the dirt and debris out of the bottom of the filter.
Our white base contrasts with all of the dirt from the filter, so you know when your filter is 100% clean.
The Filter Cleaner Max will work with all cartridge-style pool filters with a 3″, 4″ or 6″ core up to 36 inches tall.
If you have an odd-size filter, it’s not a problem. Just reach out, and we can custom-build a solution for you. If your filter has core supports going down the center of the filter, you will want to verify the small center hole is at least 1.1 inches, or upgrade your filter to the newer style without core supports prior to ordering the Filter Cleaner Max. My filter has core supports like the attached photo. Will this work with this style filter?
If your core support has a hole of 1.1″ or greater it will work. You will want to verify that your filter does have a hole of 1.1″ core support before purchasing.
I am using a larger filter, and I cannot get it to spin like the video shows. What am I doing wrong?
Although it is not necessary for the filter to free spin since you will be using the wand to clean the outside, which will also spin the filter, where it will clean the inside as well, but we know it is fun to watch it spin.
Various factors come into play.
First, make sure your lower and upper spinner plate bearings are spinning freely. You can place the lower spinner on the pressure tube and give it a spin to make sure it is spinning freely and spins for a few seconds. If it does not, you can rinse the bearing out and make sure there is no debris stuck inside. Repeat the same step for the top spinner. If it does not spin for a few seconds after cleaning it out, reach out to us.
The most important step is to make sure there are 3 jets spraying the filter. One jet at the lowest point that is always open, one at the highest point of the filter, and one at the midpoint. You also need to confirm the top jet is spraying inside the plastic core and coming in contact with the filter pleats. Then, lightly turn on the valve to the pressure tube to make sure the water is spraying the pleats. You will also need to make sure that water is coming out of all 3 jets.
If your stream is not consistent from the 3 jets, you may have had some debris enter your water supply. You can use the supplied allen wrench while the water is barely on to remove any obstructions from the jet holes. You will want to poke it in the hole to free anything that may be lodged while the water is pushing it out. If there is a lot of debris inside, you can loosen the 9/16″ nut for the plug and remove the expansion plug, flush out the pressure tube and then re-install the plug and tighten the nut.
Make sure you are using a quality 5/8″ garden hose that will supply enough water. Expanding hoses will not supply enough water pressure as their inside diameters are small, and the water pressure is used to expand the hoses.
Your home water pressure may also play a factor. If you typically have low water pressure, it may not have enough water pressure to drive the system. Typically, greater than 40 lbs of pressure is needed for smaller filters and 60 lbs or more for larger filters. Homes with well water may potentially be on the lower side of water pressure. If low pressure is always a problem, a booster pump may be good to have as a good solution for washing cars, filters, etc. We recommend a pump like this: https://amzn.to/42Hdo2y
I have core supports in my filter can I cut them out?
That is up to you. We have a lot of customers who do just this. If your filters are kept clean on a regular basis, there is not really any need for them. Many other suppliers manufacture filters that do not have the core supports that will fit your filter system.

This is the best product out there at this time. It has saved my back of 2 hours of crouching, holding, and lifting my 4 48cuft filters and the water waste. My clean time is cut at least in half and though I can’t measure the water, it feels like it saves quite a bit of that, in addition to cleaning the inside of the filters which I previously could not do.
After my first cleaning, I swear my pool water has been clearer and remains cleaner longer than ever before. My pool is surrounded by trees and I get a lot of leaves, twigs, acorns, bugs, turd, etc. in my water and it has always been a struggle to keep it from blooming algae overnight after every rain. We’ve had a lot of rain these past few weeks (God Bless the poor souls in the Texas Hill Country floods) and my pool has remained clear and blue. The longest EVER. I attribute that to the fact I can actually DEEP CLEAN the filters. And these are at least two years old. I have two sets which I would swap out every few weeks to clean. Now, I’m hopeful I can go much longer before they need cleaning and when I clean them I get much better performance.
I gave it 4 stars only because it’s not perfect and I’ve thought of a few improvements that could be made. But I still say it’s the best product I’ve come across to clean filters.
This has made my life (and back) 100% better! Now I can double-task on other pool needs while the filters clean themselves.
